P&O Cruises to scrap daily service charge

From the start of May 2019, P&O Cruises will no longer require guests to pay a daily service charge.

All passengers over the age of 12 are currently required to pay a discretionary fee of £7 a day across the seven vessels in P&O’s fleet.

Although it's used to tip members of staff, it’s an amount that can rapidly add on over £100 to the cost of a holiday for large adult parties or those families with older children.

Guests will instead be given more opportunities to tip staff they deem to be deserving throughout the course of their stay and be able to decide on the exact amount awarded.

P&O Cruises has assured customers that they won’t see prices rise or staff wages drop as a result of the decision.

"We take huge pride in giving guests a holiday experience that’s truly memorable and special," said Paul Ludlow, P&O Cruises senior vice president.

"By removing the daily discretionary Service Charge, P&O Cruises will make enjoying a cruise holiday an effortless experience, knowing that great service comes as standard."
