Ferry passengers rise by 1 million
Ferry passengers increased by 1 million in 2014, for the second year running, according to the latest Ferrystat figures.
Ferries saw a 2.6% rise in passengers over the last year from 38.01 million to 39.01 million across 75 routes.
Passenger cars being carried by ferries were also up, seeing a 1.6% increase in traffic bringing the total to 8.5 million.
Experts now believe the ferry industry is on target to reach 40 million passengers in 2015.
The Dover to Calais route saw the biggest passenger growth, carrying 13.29 million more people across P&O Ferries, MyFerryLink and DFDS operators.
North Sea routes to Holland, which is also operated by P&O Ferries and other companies, saw a rise of 2.9% passengers.
The figures were released by Discover Ferries.
